APESP reiterated, in an opinion sent to the Government, the need to ensure the presence of private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on the Strategic Consultative Council of the future Agency for Research and Innovation (AI2).
Among the proposals made by APESP’s Specialized Council in the area of Science, it is noted that the absence of the sector in the body that will advise the State on matters of science, technology, and innovation compromises the plurality of analyses and perpetuates the fragmentation of the national scientific system, which is precisely the problem that the Government itself recognizes as urgent to overcome.
Private higher education brings together missions, scientific models, and essential areas of expertise for a comprehensive vision of research and innovation dynamics in Portugal.
In its composition, the CNCTI (National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation) includes, among others, representatives of public higher education institutions, but not private ones—an absence that the Association insists harms the plurality and scope of the opinions.
