The EPIES 2025 – Meeting of Professionals for Innovation in Higher Education – took place on December 3rd, in the Salão Nobre (Main Hall) of the Rectory of the University of Lisbon, bringing together around 200 participants from institutions across the country. The event was organized by Professor Nuno Ricardo Oliveira, PhD, coordinator of the Learning Innovation Studio at ISEC Lisboa, and Professor Luís Castro, PhD, from the University of Lisbon, both members of CNIPES.
The opening session featured speeches by the Rector of the University of Lisbon, Luís Ferreira; Tânia Carraquico, President of ISEC Lisboa; Nuno Ricardo Oliveira; Patrícia Rosado Pinto, President of CNIPES; and Cláudia Sarrico, Secretary of State for Higher Education, who highlighted the need for higher education to reinvent itself, reinforcing the focus on pedagogical innovation and the importance of peer-to-peer sharing.
This was followed by the plenary session “Innovation in Learning: Beyond the Classroom,” presented by Rogério Costa (Polytechnic Institute of Leiria), and the panel “The Backstage of Pedagogical Innovation,” which gathered specialists from technological, multimedia, and learning support areas.
During the afternoon, participants joined three Collaborative Laboratories, dedicated to the development of pedagogical experiences in Moodle, the creation of multimedia resources, and the role of libraries as pedagogical hubs, promoting shared practices and collaboration among teams. The plenary “The Future of Innovation Ecosystems in Higher Education,” led by Patrícia Rosado Pinto, reinforced the need for strong institutional networks to face emerging challenges. The closing session featured Luís Castro, Nuno Ricardo Oliveira, and Susana Reis from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.
EPIES 2025 highlighted the fundamental role of technical and specialized professionals in educational transformation, valuing the work that sustains pedagogical innovation and promoting the discussion about the future of higher education in Portugal.
The next edition is scheduled for November 25, 2026, at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.
