Lusíada University and CIPD launch pioneering project on young carers in Portugal

Lusíada University, through the Centre for Research in Psychology for Development (CIPD) and the Faculty of Engineering of Lusíada University (Vila Nova de Famalicão), officially launched the project “Care4_YC.PT – Caring for those who care: young carers in Portugal” on December 1, 2025. This marks a decisive milestone in the research, recognition, and support for young people who perform care functions in their family context — a reality until now ignored in public policies and educational, social, and health services in Portugal. Approved under the 2023 Call for Scientific Research and Technological Development (IC&DT) projects, promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in conjunction with COMPETE2030 – Innovation and Digital Transition Program, this project will be developed over 36 months (December 2025 to November 2028).
