For every euro invested in a higher education degree, the return in the labor market is an additional 13.7 euros compared to those without a diploma, according to a study by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation. Higher Education and Youth Employment in Portugal: Trends, Results, and International Comparisons is now available in full for consultation and states that:
At the beginning of a career, holding a Master’s degree guarantees a 49% higher salary than holding a secondary education degree. A Bachelor’s degree guarantees 28% more;
Initial expenses are a major obstacle to students entering higher education – family costs are more than double the European average;
Over the last 25 years, the percentage of young adults in higher education has quadrupled.
