The increase in the number of deaths in the context of domestic violence in Portugal has once again placed the topic at the center of public debate. In statements to Sábado magazine, Vítor Silva, coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Forensic Psychology and Criminal Investigation at Piaget Viseu, argued that this type of report must be investigated with the same seriousness and urgency as a homicide.
According to the specialist, many victims already have a history of reports but remain without effective protection. For Vítor Silva, it is essential to collect evidence at the very first moment, at the scene of the occurrence, through a more complete and articulated action between authorities and multidisciplinary teams.
The official also underlines the importance of prevention, advocating for continuous work in schools to combat the normalization of controlling behaviors and violence in relationships.
