In a new opinion piece for the newspaper “Nascer do SOL”, the President of ISEC Lisboa, Dr. Tânia Carraquico, explains how pedagogical transformation in higher education is no longer optional due to digital, social, and economic shifts.
“Pedagogical transformation in higher education in Portugal has ceased to be an option and has become an urgent necessity. We live in a society in constant flux, marked by the rapid pace of technological innovation, new ways of communicating and working, and social and economic challenges that demand citizens prepared to deal with complexity, uncertainty, and continuous change,” she explains.
The text emphasizes that pedagogical transformation is entirely interconnected with faculty and students, stating that it is “(…) necessary to develop a culture of educational innovation, where mistakes are transformed into learning, feedback from students and teachers is valued, and continuous improvement guides all decisions.”
Digital transformation in higher education is no longer enough; pedagogical transformation involves adopting student-centered learning measures and methods, turning higher education into a “space for the co-creation of knowledge.”
The article also highlights the role of teaching and technical staff who, together, are able to implement and design educational strategies that stimulate learning, critical thinking, and creativity.
